As a Deaf person, I recognize the importance of clear and effective
communication within the counseling process. True change cannot happen
without a clear understanding of the obstacles before you and the goals you
want to achieve. I hope to be able to serve the needs of my clients through
offering understanding of their circumstances. I will challenge them to
transcend those circumstances to become who God created them to be.
As a Christian, I am keenly aware of the role faith plays in the healing
process. In a world as diverse and varied in its perspectives on life, I
respect the experiences and backgrounds of my clients. My counseling
approach is grounded in the belief that we live in an imperfect world. Many
of our struggles are rooted in broken relationships, disappointed
expectations and severe hurts imposed either by ourselves or others (or
both). I believe that God has given us the opportunity to experience healing
through relationships with Him and others.
I like to think of myself as my clients' ally. Their healing, success and
contentment is my goal. Clients must show a clear willingness to commit to
the therapeutic process knowing that I will walk alongside them throughout
the entire process. The Christian faith states that "the truth will set you
free"(John 8:32). Regardless of background or faith, I firmly believe that
the counseling process is one in which the counselor and client discover the
truth in which the client is free to live life as a fulfilled individual.
